Description
The evaluation of control engineering methods and automated processes is initially carried out in the form of extensive simulation studies. The developed methods are tested for their accuracy and robustness against possible disturbances before they are implemented in real physical systems. This is often referred to as digital twins. Video game engines such as Unity or Unreal Engine (UE5) are therefore suitable as a visual and physical framework. We would like to test the extent to which such engines are suitable for digitally simulating and carrying out experiments. To this end, we are looking for support as part of a research assistantship.
Tasks
- Creation of a virtual image of a process engineering experiment (e.g. three-tank system)
- Physics simulation of the experiment in VR (via UE5 plugins)
- Connection to Matlab/ROS2 for the implementation of control engineering methods
What you should bring with you?
- No previous knowledge of control engineering or UE5 necessary
- Interest in working with graphical engines
